Seventeen years in the alpaca business
Seventeen years in the alpaca business — where did the time go?
I recently received the first batch of registrations for our 2025 crias, and it’s been such a joy to look through them. Each certificate feels like a little time capsule, taking me back through the years of breeding decisions, purchases, and investments that have shaped our herd. It’s amazing to realize that we never stopped learning, growing, and refining along the way.
Snowmass Pure Reserve XX was a real turning point for us. We purchased him at the Snowmass Symposium in 2014, and starting in 2015, he elevated our breeding program to an entirely new level. Following him came Snowmass Salvations Legacy XX, Snowmass Divine Love, and Xclipse’s Belenis — all pivotal additions.
I still remember seeing Divine Love for the first time at the 2013 Futurity in Kansas, where he won Judge’s Choice. He completely captivated me, and I couldn’t help but wonder what it would take to one day own a male like him. That dream became a reality in 2017 when Divine Love was offered at the Futurity auction, and we had the privilege of bringing him home.
In 2018, we added another remarkable male to our program — Snowmass Everlasting Highlander XX. He’s been such a gift to our breeding goals, producing many outstanding offspring, including our very own Ariya Everlasting One of a Kind.
In 2021, we introduced Snowmass Loro Piana to our white breeding program. We were aiming for that bright, luminous white fleece — and he truly delivered.
And now, in 2026, we’ve welcomed some incredible new additions — Snowmass Obvious King, Snowmass Lover’s Spartan, and Snowmass Mystic Highlander. What’s most exciting for us is exploring how these males will complement the strong foundation we’ve built with our past breeding lines.
In the next blog I will be talking about the impact of our females.
Have a great day!
